Funded by the National Science Foundation, the HBCU RaCE initiative is dedicated to amplifying the visibility, collaboration, and impact of faculty researchers across Historically Black Colleges and Universities. By building a shared expertise directory across six partner institutions—Alabama A&M University, Fisk University, North Carolina Central University, the University of the Virgin Islands, Virginia State University, and Winston Salem State University—this project aims to make it easier for scholars to connect, share resources, and grow their research networks.
Many HBCU researchers lead groundbreaking work, but face challenges in gaining recognition or access to collaborators and funding opportunities. HBCU RaCE helps bridge that gap by creating a centralized, user-friendly platform to showcase faculty expertise, publications, and ongoing projects. Through this effort, we hope to reduce institutional isolation, foster inter-campus partnerships, and strengthen the national research ecosystem with greater diversity and inclusion.
Together, we’re building a stronger, more connected community of HBCU researchers—supporting innovation, collaboration, and opportunity in science and beyond.
